Pic-of-the-Week for October 15, 2013 and another make up for September

Hola, Amigos!

Ben wrote another make-up blog for September.  I added a few photos and what's happening in Baja at the end, so don't miss anything!

Here's Ben's efforts.  Enjoy the parade!

Rodeo!!  Let’er Buck!
YOU MISSED THE PENDLETON ROUND-UP?  Tsk, Tsk!

We went for you this year, and the “Do not miss” event is the free parade down through the heart of Pendleton on Friday morning.  This parade has NO motorized vehicles in the parade.

The parade was lead off by a white horse in memory of Umatilla County’s fallen military heroes.

When the Pendleton Round-Up celebrated its 100th birthday in 2010, they started a tradition of leading off the parade with 100 USA flags held by people on horseback.  The tradition continues with 103 flags this year.  Big cowboys and cowgirls (hopefully they will never be called “cowpersons”)!

Even little cowgirls

Lots of American flags!

With any Pendleton Round-up parade there are pretty Horses …….

Whoa, Who said you could take my picture?

Pretty girls ……….

Pretty Indian girls ………

Tough guys with tougher oxen ……….

And, tough parade fans!

Every parade needs wagons …………

Stage Coaches ……..

Buggies ……..

And, a horse-drawn High Wheel for logging!

Have you ever wondered where all these people stay?  Well I don’t know either, but maybe some of the girls stay at the hotel!

That was just a small sample of the many things seen at the parade.  For a history of the Pendleton Round-Up, there is an interesting U-tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rx7BJBNW7ew

OK!  Wasn't that fun?  We think so...that's why we keep going back every year!

Tropical Storm Octave blew through here this last weekend, and we got hours of rain, thunder and lightening!  The road department had just dumped dirt on our side roads in preparation for grading out this summer's storm damages, but it's a good thing they waited for the grading part...the storm damage just got worse.  I think the storms have passed by now,  and things are looking better (and greener!)

As the storms blew by from the south, my new windsock danced in the wind!

And last night's sunset filled the sky with oranges and yellows!  Beautiful!

Oh!!!  I almost forgot this little guy that Ben found at the bottom of our stairs... it is so wet the crabs are coming out!  His shell is about 1" across.  Cute, huh?

More photos are in our October 2013 album.

Until the next time (I never know when Ben will get creative with his writing again!)
